TELLING WATFORD'S STORY
PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE
Since 1981, Watford Museum has occupied a 1775 building at 194 Lower High Street. However, due to its listed status, it falls short of meeting the requirements for a modern and accessible museum.
To better showcase Watford's rich history and vibrant spirit, we plan to relocate the museum and its growing historical collection to Watford Town Hall.
This move will enhance accessibility, foster connections with nearby cultural venues like the Colosseum and Watford Library, and accommodate a broader range of visitors.

HOW ARE WE DOING THIS?
Our exciting plans will see the museum move to the front of the Town Hall following its refurbishment.
This includes the listed ‘committee rooms’ that are wonderful examples of 1930s design. The move gives us a great opportunity to design a new museum that gives visitors a really exciting, interactive and memorable experience.
The current museum building, Benskin House, is an important piece of Watford’s heritage and its Grade II listing will ensure it is preserved for future generations.
