BECOMING CARBON NEUTRAL
Councillors declared a climate emergency and pledged to make the council’s own carbon emissions net zero carbon by the end of 2030.
To support its commitment to sustainability, the council has been awarded £3.2m government funding as part of the Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme run by Salix. It has been used to:
⦿ refurbish windows,
⦿ improve heating control and ⦿ improve lighting
⦿ introduce cavity wall insulation ⦿ installation of photovoltaic panels and storage

WHAT HAS THE WORK ACHIEVED?
It will take 50% off our gas bill and 32% off our electricity bill each and every year. The project has delivered:
⦿ over 180 solar panels (saving 24 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually)
⦿ new state of the art windows (decrease energy transfer by 75%)
⦿ energy-efficient lighting and new roof and wall cavity installation (saving 166 tonnes of carbon)
⦿ 99% of the waste was redirected away from landfill
